The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, in her remarks, emphasised that culture remains a source of pride and identity for people, regardless of their location.

She noted that the celebration exemplifies the shared cultural values that bind communities together.

According to her, the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is committed to collaborations that promote cultural exchange and tourism development, reiterating that tourism remains a melting pot for Lagos State’s cultural heritage and economic growth.

Delivering his opening address, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of the Philippines in Lagos, Hon. Emmanuel Akpakwu, MFR, stated that Philippine Independence Day is a moment to reflect on the resilience, pride, and rising spirit of the Filipino people.

He described the event as not only a cultural celebration but also a strategic platform for partnerships between the Lagos State Government and international stakeholders.

“I am pleased to announce a groundbreaking collaboration with Francisco Motors, the iconic Filipino automaker, which will be establishing an electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant and charging station infrastructure in Nigeria,” he disclosed.

Hon. Akpakwu highlighted the immense potential for bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the Philippines across various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, modular housing, digital services, green energy, and education.

He invited ministries, investors, and entrepreneurs to engage with the Philippine Consulate in Lagos, affirming that “Manila and Lagos will rise together.”

The Honorary Consul expressed his profound appreciation to the Lagos State Government for joining in the celebration of the 127th Independence Day of the Philippines.
