The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted a significant illegal ammunition shipment and arrested a suspect linked to the operation.
Acting in collaboration with officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), operatives from the Nyanya Division apprehended 32-year-old Nuhu Aminu from Katsina State at the Nyanya bus terminal on March 24, 2025.
Aminu was found in possession of 488 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition, cleverly concealed in two 25-litre jerrycans filled with palm oil in an attempt to evade detection.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was recruited by one Yakubu Kachalla of Funtua, Katsina State, who allegedly paid him N100,000 to retrieve the ammunition from an unidentified contact in Nasarawa State and deliver it to Katsina.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, emphasized that the operation underscores the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and preventing the proliferation of illegal arms that contribute to violent crimes.
She added that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to track down his accomplices and uncover the full extent of the arms-smuggling network.
