The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has announced the passing of Professor Jimoh Famakinwa of the Department of Philosophy.
According to a statement released on Thursday, Famakinwa collapsed during a departmental meeting on Wednesday after colleagues observed he was breathing abnormally.
He was immediately rushed to the university’s medical center, where doctors promptly attended to him before referring him to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTHC). Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Deeply saddened by the incident, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simeon Bamire led members of the university’s management team on a condolence visit to the late professor’s widow and children.
“The team expressed shock and disbelief that such a brilliant scholar could pass away so suddenly in the line of duty,” the statement read.
Prof. Bamire encouraged the bereaved family to take solace in the profound impact Famakinwa had on his students, colleagues, and the academic community.
He also prayed for strength for the family, the Department of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, and the entire university community to bear the loss.
Famakinwa’s remains have been deposited at the OAUTHC morgue.
