Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has opened up about the horrifying abuse she endured in a toxic relationship that lasted 10 years.
In an explosive interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya revealed that although she was never married to her abusive partner, she remained in the relationship out of fear of public scrutiny.
“For ten years, I was beaten and emotionally drained. I fell into depression and turned to alcohol just to survive,” she admitted.
A Vicious Cycle of Abuse and Addiction
The actress recounted how the physical and emotional torment led her into alcoholism, as she desperately sought an escape.
“I would sneak out to buy a bottle of brandy and drink in a corner just to feel numb. I didn’t want to hear his words, I didn’t want to feel the beatings—it became a routine,” she said.
At one point, Adesanya said she was so consumed by alcohol that she would visit pharmacies in the early hours just to get a drink before facing another day of abuse.
A Midnight Escape After a Prophetic Dream
The turning point came when she had a recurring dream three times—a vision that warned her to leave.
“In the dream, I saw a car moving backward, and people told me to leave it because it was my time for glory,” she recalled.
Determined to escape, Adesanya confided in her sister and seized an opportunity when her abuser went to the club.
“At midnight, my sister Lara came. I packed my personal belongings, took my son, and left for good,” she revealed.
Though she had tried to leave three times before, this time, she never looked back.
The actress was previously in a relationship with Nollywood actor Goriola Hassan, with whom she has a son.
