Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has denied allegations made by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, linking him to the recent violence in the state.
The unrest, which erupted on Monday, reportedly led to the deaths of five individuals following clashes between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the attempted reinstatement of sacked local government chairpersons.
Adeleke accused the IGP of collaborating with the APC to enforce what he described as a “non-existent court order” reinstating the dismissed officials.
In his response on Thursday, Egbetokun dismissed the claims, calling them “illogical” and unworthy of a response.
“I refuse to dignify such absurdity with a reply. However, we will not allow misinformation against us to go unchallenged,” he said.
He clarified that the police only acted in response to a request from the Osun State Commissioner of Police for reinforcement.
“We have strengthened the police presence in Osun to maintain law and order,” he added.
Egbetokun urged residents of Osun State to remain calm, continue their daily activities, and uphold the rule of law.
