The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted reports claiming that incumbent council chairmen seeking re-election have been directed to resign their positions.

In a statement released on January 13, 2025, by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the APC clarified that the alleged directive attributed to the party’s state chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, is false and misleading.

“There is no iota of truth in the publication, as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher,” Oladejo stated.

According to the statement, the directive was specifically targeted at APC local government party chairmen who intend to run for elective positions in the upcoming elections.

The local government party chairmen, Oladejo emphasized, are required to resign their roles to avoid conflicts of interest, as they cannot serve as both aspirants and election umpires.

“The local government party chairmen who double as aspirants in the coming elections, for emphasis, will be required to resign their current positions when the guidelines are released,” the statement read.

The party also cautioned members and the general public against spreading misleading information that could create unnecessary tension within the polity.

As the newly reconstituted Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) prepares to release electoral guidelines, the APC urged its members to focus on activities that foster party unity and cohesion.
