The Lagos State House of Assembly, during its plenary session on Monday, January 6, 2025, passed a bill designed to unify and amend existing laws governing local government administration in the state.
Presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the session featured the bill’s presentation by Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development.
According to Hon. Okanlawon, the bill aims to provide a comprehensive framework for the local government system in Lagos State by consolidating existing laws to enhance governance and administration.
He also highlighted that the bill incorporates consequential provisions from recent constitutional amendments and other relevant national laws that impact local government operations.
Following the adoption of the committee’s recommendations, the House resolved to proceed with the bill’s implementation.
Speaker Obasa subsequently directed the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, to transmit the resolution to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his assent.
