President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that his administration’s tax reforms are permanent and integral to his economic agenda.
The President made this declaration during his first presidential media chat on Monday night in Lagos State.
The proposed tax reform bills, currently before the National Assembly, have sparked debates and faced resistance, particularly from some Northern leaders. This prompted lawmakers to initiate consultations to address the concerns raised.
Despite the pushback, President Tinubu reiterated that the reforms are designed to benefit the poor by expanding the tax net to include more contributors.
“The tax reforms are here to stay. They are pro-poor and aim to widen the tax net, ensuring more people participate,” Tinubu said. “The hallmark of a good leader is the ability to do what needs to be done at the right time.”
