The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, led a high-powered delegation to the National Assembly Complex today.
The visit was aimed at briefing the House Committee on Electoral Matters about INEC’s plans to relocate its Local Government Area (LGA) offices currently housed in local government secretariats to its own facilities.
Accompanied by National Commissioners, Directors, and Technical Aides, Prof. Yakubu outlined the rationale behind the proposed relocation.
He emphasized that the move is critical to strengthening INEC’s independence, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring a more secure and neutral environment for its activities.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to deliberate on strategies and modalities for the relocation, with members of the committee expressing their commitment to supporting the Commission’s efforts.
The proposed relocation underscores INEC’s determination to fortify its institutional capacity and further its mandate of conducting credible elections in Nigeria.
