The National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended Justice G.C. Aguma of the Rivers State High Court and Justice A.O. Nwabunike of the Anambra State High Court from judicial duties.
The suspension, which spans one year without pay, also includes placing the judges on a two-year watch list afterward.
This resolution was reached during the NJC’s 107th meeting held on November 13 and 14, 2024, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
In total, five judicial officers were sanctioned for misconduct. Among them were Hon. Justice T.E. Chukwuemeka Chikeka, Chief Judge of Imo State, and Hon. Kadi Babagana Mahdi, Grand Kadi of Yobe State, who were recommended for compulsory retirement due to falsification of their ages.
The Council also reviewed 30 petitions assessed by its Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee. Out of these, 22 were dismissed for lack of merit, while two were deemed sub judice.
Furthermore, the NJC constituted a committee to investigate complaints and petitions against Hon. Justice O.A. Ojo, Chief Judge of Osun State.
