The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Governor Alex Otti to provide proof for his recent assertion that N90 billion was disbursed to settle contract debts in the state.

In an open letter signed by the party’s new chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, dated November 8, 2024, and shared with South-East PUNCH, the PDP expressed doubt over the governor’s claims regarding payments linked to past PDP-led administrations.

The letter states, “The Abia PDP is unaware of any such debt left by the immediate past PDP administration. It would serve Abians well if you could substantiate your claims with documented evidence.”

The party expressed concern over the substantial figure and called on Otti to clarify how the amount was calculated, noting that transparency in disbursing public funds is crucial for fostering trust.

The PDP further urged the governor to disclose the beneficiaries of these payments to reinforce public confidence in his administration’s financial dealings.

The letter continued, “The public deserves to know who has benefited from these transactions. Additionally, with reports suggesting that Signature Bank received an additional N90 billion from your administration, it is critical to provide assurances of integrity and legitimacy.”

The PDP also noted what it sees as inconsistencies between Otti’s previous assurances about spending and current financial actions, asking him to address these issues and uphold transparency for effective governance.
