The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, led by Honourable Commissioner Abisola Olusanya, has announced the upcoming Lagos Food Festival, themed “A Taste of Culture.”
Scheduled for Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Muri-Okunola Park, Victoria Island, the festival aims to spotlight the diverse food heritage of Lagos while offering local food entrepreneurs and consumers a unique marketplace experience.
This annual festival, a cornerstone of Lagos’ agricultural development strategy, will highlight the state’s rich food culture and its potential to captivate both local and international markets.
According to Olusanya, the event is designed to promote direct marketing opportunities for fishermen, farmers, agro-processors, and foodpreneurs across Lagos.
Additionally, it will foster networking among stakeholders, creating valuable linkages across the food supply chain.
“The Lagos Food Festival is not just about food; it’s about connecting the dots in our agricultural value chains,” Olusanya remarked. “We’re creating a space for relaxation, family fun, and culinary adventure while generating jobs and stimulating the local economy.”
This year’s festival, promising to draw in a crowd of over 13,000 guests, will feature a dazzling array of activities, from musical and cultural performances to live cooking masterclasses led by renowned chefs.
Attendees will be able to enjoy an assortment of delicacies, including seafood, meat, poultry, fresh farm produce, organic groceries, dry foods, pastries, drinks, and ready-to-eat treats, each reflecting the city’s diverse ethnic mix.
With the projected creation of approximately 1,300 direct and indirect income-generating opportunities, the 2024 Lagos Food Festival anticipates considerable economic benefits.
Vendors, technicians, and support staff will be engaged for setup, operations, and breakdown, while new business linkages are expected to flourish, providing fresh and processed foods to consumers throughout Lagos.
The festival’s success in previous years speaks to its popularity; last year’s edition alone attracted over 12,100 participants and featured more than 86 vendors and fish farmers.
Expanding its outreach to young audiences, this year’s festival will include awareness activities across four university campuses, aimed at sensitizing students to the opportunities within the Lagos food sector.
The Honourable Commissioner concluded by inviting the public to bring family and friends to the Lagos Food Festival for an unforgettable day of food, fun, and festivities.
With attractions for all ages, including a children’s play area, games, and a vibrant line-up of music and entertainment, “A Taste of Culture” promises to be a highlight on Lagos’ event calendar.
