Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola, 54, has opened up about why she has chosen to remain unmarried.
In a recent interview, the actress revealed that her decision stems from the loss of her “forever love,” a man she had hoped to spend her life with.
Akintola explained that her soulmate had passed away, a painful experience she rarely discusses. She shared, “He died. I don’t talk about it, but he’s gone. It took me a very long time to find him, and now he’s no longer here.”
The actress made it clear that she doesn’t believe in getting married simply for appearances. “Marriage shouldn’t be done just for the sake of it. If you can’t stay true to your vows, why bother? The person I could have done forever with is gone. I’m not saying you can’t love more than once, but finding that one person took me so long.”
Akintola, reflecting on her age and life experiences, added that she’s too old to ignore red flags or to go through the motions for the sake of societal expectations. “Why should I get married just to make the world happy? It makes no sense to me. I won’t do that for anyone. I live my life truthfully because at the end of the day, it’s just me and God when I leave this world.”
While she still believes in the institution of marriage, Akintola admitted that the person she felt she could truly commit to is gone. “I’ve dated, but I never saw forever with those people. Before I found him, I thought it might never happen. If I ever find someone else I see forever with, I’ll marry—even if I’m 82.”
The actress concluded by emphasizing the challenges of marriage and her unwillingness to enter into one unless she is certain. “Marriage is hard, very hard. Why would I go into it with someone I know I can’t do forever with?”
