As the people of Edo State elect a new governor today, a call has gone out to political parties to ensure the electoral process is peaceful and devoid of violence.
This appeal was made by the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) in a press release issued and signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, who emphasized that only a peaceful process can enthrone a genuine leader for the people.
He urged security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discharge their duties impartially and without undue interference so that the will of the people will prevail at the end of the day.
The CAIDOV boss also appealed to contestants to view the election as a contest in which only one will emerge victorious, urging the others to embrace the winner for the progress and development of Edo State.
“As the people of Edo decide on the next governor, we at CAIDOV appeal for the process to be peaceful before, during, and after the election, so that a popular and well-loved candidate can emerge.”
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies should ensure they carry out their constitutional duties without undue interference from any quarter. The development of Edo State should be the focus.”
“We also admonish the candidates to see the process as a contest in which only one winner will emerge, so they can unite to support the victor for the progress and development of Edo State.”
In conclusion, he added, “At CAIDOV, we wish the people of Edo a peaceful and successful election that will usher in a governor who is both popular and well-loved by the majority of the people of Edo State.”
