President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Gatekeepers News reports that Tinubu who travelled to France on Monday, August 19, 2024, had to cut his trip short and arrive the country around 2:00 am to swear in the CJN.
Justice Kekere-Ekun took her Oaths at about 11:38 am.
Recall that the former CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, retired on Thursday after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.
Present at the event were other Justices of the Supreme Court; the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; leadership of the House of Representatives, represented by Prof Julius Ihonbvere; the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwoolu and the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ariwoola.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris were also present.
