It is with deep sorrow and outrage that I condemn the heinous act of terrorism that resulted in the gruesome murder of 1 Army Commander, 2 Majors, 1 Captain, and 13 Soldiers in an ambush in the Okuoma Community of Delta State while on a peacekeeping mission. This despicable act of violence not only claimed the lives of brave and dedicated servicemen but also struck at the heart of our nation’s security and stability.

Ekiti 2026: The Symbolic Submission of Governor Oyebanji vs. the Envy-Laden Submission by the Atiku of Ekiti

The loss of these gallant soldiers is a stark reminder of the grave threat that terrorism poses to our society. These men put their lives on the line every day to defend our country and uphold peace and security both at home and abroad. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and their families and loved ones deserve our deepest sympathy and support during this difficult time.

This cowardly attack on our military personnel cannot and must not go unpunished. The state must treat this as an invitation to war against the forces of terror that seek to undermine our sovereignty and destabilize our nation. We cannot afford to be complacent in the face of such brazen acts of violence. It is imperative that we respond swiftly and decisively to root out the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice.

Furthermore, we must also address the underlying factors that fuel extremism and terrorism in our society. This includes tackling issues such as poverty, marginalization, and social injustice, which can breed resentment and radicalization. Building strong and resilient communities, where all citizens have access to opportunities and feel a sense of belonging, is crucial in preventing the spread of violent extremism, banditry, and militancy.

In this dark hour, let us stand united as a nation against the scourge of terrorism. Let us honor the memory of our fallen heroes by redoubling our efforts to safeguard our homeland and ensure that their sacrifice was not in vain. May their bravery and selflessness inspire us all to work tirelessly towards a future of peace, prosperity, and unity for all Nigerians.

We call on the relevant authorities to mobilize all necessary resources and collaborate with the international community to combat terrorism in all its forms. We must send a clear message to those who seek to disrupt our way of life that their actions will not be tolerated, and justice will be served swiftly and without mercy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen soldiers, as well as with all those affected by this senseless act of violence. May they find strength and solace in the knowledge that the entire nation stands with them in solidarity and resolve.
