The demise of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, has been confirmed.
The announcement was made by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, stating that Oba Balogun passed away on Thursday evening at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, at the age of 81.
Oba Balogun ascended the throne two years ago and received the Staff of Office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on March 11, 2022.
Governor Makinde expressed condolences, describing the late monarch as a significant figure in Ibadan’s history, akin to a mighty Iroko tree.
He acknowledged Oba Balogun’s contribution to Ibadan’s heritage and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.
The passing of Oba Dr. Balogun is seen as the end of an era for Ibadanland, leaving a notable void in its history and culture.
Oba Balogun was born on October 18, 1942.
