The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has once again emphasized the need for stricter penalties for kidnappers in the country.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Senators representing the three senatorial districts of Lagos State at her office in the State House, Abuja, Senator Tinubu urged lawmakers to enact security-related legislation to curb the rising incidence of this crime.
“We should look into the laws we would bring up. On the issue of kidnapping, it is like we are in a war, a war against kidnapping and kidnappers,” she remarked.
Senator Tinubu also called on Nigerians to support one another, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy for future generations, which requires sacrifice and courage.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East and Chairman of the Southern Senators Forum, as well as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking and Finance, highlighted the ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, aimed at placing the nation on a solid economic footing for lasting prosperity.
He assured that the Senate would continue to prioritize legislation that benefits the people, particularly in the areas of economy and security, expressing optimism that Nigeria would soon become an economic haven.
Joining the courtesy visit were Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni, representing Lagos Central and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, and Senator Dr. Oluranti Adebule, representing Lagos West and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation.
