In a fervent call to action, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has urged youths to steer clear of substance abuse and cultism during a one-day sensitization session organized by The Eye Conference, a youth advocacy organization coordinated by Mr. Seun Fakoya.
The event, which took place on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, at the Government College Hall, witnessed the attendance of students from various educational institutions including Girls Junior High School, Agege; Girls Junior Secondary School, Agege; Government Junior College, Agege, and Government Senior College, Agege.
Obasa’s representative, Hon. Aruna I. Ogunsola, alongside other distinguished guest speakers, illuminated the attendees on the perils of substance abuse and cultism, echoing the stringent stance of the law enacted by the Lagos State House of Assembly under Rt. Hon. Obasa’s leadership. This legislation deems cultism and substance abuse as criminal offenses, subject to punishment upon conviction.
Among the notable figures present were the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner of Police, the State Commandant of NDLEA, the State Commandant of NSDC, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary for Education District 1, and the General Overseer of Fire & Miracles Ministry, all of whom were represented.
The culmination of the event saw Hon. Obasa being honored with the prestigious “THE EYE MAN OF THE YEAR – LEGISLATURE” award by the organizers, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to legislative advocacy and youth empowerment.
