As I sit here, grappling with the news of the brutal killings of over 160 Nigerians in Plateau state on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, my heart goes out to the families of the victims. It is truly a tragic and senseless loss of innocent lives, and my deepest condolences and sympathies go out to all those who have been affected by this heinous act of terror.
The fact that over 20 villages across Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu LGAs were attacked is a clear indication of the failure of our security agencies to protect the citizens. It is sad that the lives of our people are constantly under threat from terrorists.
The flagrant failure of the security agencies to thwart the terrorists’ plots or arrest them after their heinous crimes is deeply saddening. It is unacceptable that the Defence Headquarters, the highest authority of the military high command, could not respond soon enough to the distress calls from the villagers because of the bad terrain in those communities. This is a disheartening statement that only adds to the pain and suffering of the families of the victims.
I condemn this act of terrorism in the strongest possible terms. It is a cowardly and despicable act that has no place in a civilized society. The perpetrators of this crime must be brought to justice and held accountable for their actions.
I also admonish the military for its insensitive statement and urge them to take immediate and decisive action to ensure the safety and security of the people in those communities. It is their duty to protect the citizens of this country, and they must do everything in their power to prevent such attacks from happening in the future.
I urge the federal government to take urgent and concrete steps to curb such occurrences in the future. The safety and security of the people should be a top priority, and it is imperative that the government takes proactive measures to prevent such senseless loss of lives.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this difficult time. I stand in solidarity with them and call for justice to be served. We cannot allow such acts of terror to continue unchecked, and it is time for the government to take decisive action to protect its citizens.
