Pandemonium ensued Thursday at Ifelodun North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Eweta, Ikirun, Osun State where the kingmakers converged to select a successor to the late king of Eko-Ende. The stool became vacant at the demise of Oba Rauf Olaniyan Ajiboye on Sunday, March 23 this year. He hailed from the Olaigbo Ruling House.
And in an attempt to replace him from the next Ayedun Ruling House, nomination was declared and 12 interested aspirants, including a legal practitioner, Barrister Adegboyega Omoloye Tiamiyu were confirmed to have collected forms andwere duly nominated.
And to speed action on the issue to avoid rancour the delay could cause the five king makers under the leadership of Esa, the second in command to the king, Chief Isaac kolawole Ogunkeye picked Thursday, November 2, for the selection exercise.
But ironically, as the process started smoothly and was progressing heart-warmingly, protesters, who were believed to be hired urchins, stormed the venue chanting war songs before the peaceful procession snowballed into attacking the venue with stone, sticks and any other available cudgel in sight.
An indigene of the town, who spoke on the condition of unanimity for fear of identification suspected the street miscreants that perpetrated the disruption to have been hired by those candidates, who were not sure of their luck.
Reliable sources close to the selection team and the council officials however confided in our reporter that another date would be fixed for the exercise after the report has reached the governor’s table and the governor issues directive on the matter.
