A human right organization, the Royal Peoples Forum (RPP), has urged Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to ignore detractors who want to detract him from the laudable policy of sanitizing the state to become conducive for habitation, ease of doing business and assist in prolonging the life span of the citizenry.
Convener of the Forum, Comrade Dare Aladekoba dropped the words of advice weekend in Lagos when chatting with a couple of reporters on the importance of cleaner an organised environment for the good of the people and residents of the state.
Choosing the environment as the topic of discussion, Aladekoba disclosed was borne out of the attitude of some sections of the public who were seen as not being on same page with the administration on the issue of better environment, saying, “Come rain, come shine, our members and supporters within and outside the country will at all-time be on the same page with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on any policy that is meant for the good of the generality of the people.”
According to him, anybody who plays politics with the matter concerning the environment is an enemy of the society because of its importance of its cleanliness to the existence of the people and other creatures on earth, saying, “Rather, all hands should be on deck to rally round the governor to see to the success of the policy.”
Aladekoba enumerated impediments to cleaner environment to include wrong disposal of refuse, blocking drainages, erection of structures on path-ways, building of either residential or commercial structure on un-authorised plots, filthy market surrounding, street trading and other conducts capable of suffocating members of the public, saying, “In a nut shed, any action that can cause undue inconvenience to members of the public.”
The activist reasoned that, only an irresponsible and irresponsive administrator would pretend to be sleeping while all these atrocities are going on under his nose without taking actions to curb them,” adding, “And when taking action to correct the anomalies, it is incumbent on all well-meaning members of the public to rally round him for the good of the people.”
Aladekoba therefore expressed astonishment that, “We can still find some people who would not see anything good in the step the governor is doing along that line,” wondering if such people have forgotten that street trading is child abuse, encourages child labour and breeding ground for hoodlums!
Against this background, the group pledged its support for governor Sanwo-Olu and urged other people to follow suit because doing so would amount to following the universal norm of civilised cities like Lagos across the globe.
