Prof Taoheed Adedoja, who turns 72 years today, May 27 2023, being Children’s day has advised government to give more attention to the educational development of special needs children, particularly Persons with Disabilities.
Prof Adedoja, the former Minister of Sports and Special Duties advised the in-coming administration to implement the provisions of the Disability Act as passed by the National Assembly and signed into law by the out-going President Muhammadu Buhari.
While speaking to reporters in Calabar today, the former Minister, who is the Chairman of the governing Council of the Federal College of Education in OBUDU , Cross River state stated that.
“Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria do not lack talents to contribute to the development of Nigeria, what they need is equal opportunities in all spheres of life.”
Meanwhile at the commissioning of the ultra-modern Teachers Continuous Training Institute, Biase, in Cross River state last week Wednesday May 24 , the out-going Governor of Cross River state, Prof Ben Ayade, expressed satisfaction with the leadership of Prof Adedoja as the pioneer Director General of the Teachers Continuous Training Institute, Biase, and remarked that, “this is an institute that formally took off in year 2020 for the retraining of teachers in Nigeria with stories of successes and achievements since Pro Adedoja became the Director General of the institute.”
In another related development, Prof Adedoja, at the commissioning program where he received a standing ovation, announced that TCTI, Biase has the best infrastructure and Technology for teacher retraining and Digital literacy training for emerging Skills Development in Nigeria.
“The TCTI is one of the major Ayade projects that is receiving international visibility,” Adedoja asserted.
The former Provost of the Federal College of Education, Special, Oyo and who also served as the pioneer Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal University in Dutse, Jigawa state is a native of Ibadan, born in Kano on children’s day, May 27, 1951.
He rose to the rank of Professor at 43 years and was Dean of the faculty of Education at Bayero University, Kano.
Prof Adedoja is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), in Ile Ife, Osun State before proceeding to the Eastern Illinois University and the Oklahoma State University in the United States of America (USA).
After the completion of his studies in 1984 he served as a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State for four years before moving to Bayero University in 1988.
As the grand patron of Nigerian Joint Association of Persons With Disabilities, he provides various assistance to Persons With Disabilities annually to mark his birthday days.
