Contrary to the rumour going rounds that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Presidential Aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has endorsed a particular aspirant for the Lagos West Senatorial District, this medium can confirmed that Tinubu has not done such.
A very top member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) told this medium that Asiwaju has not given such order saying the National Leader of the party has reiterated the fact that all aspirants should go and prove their popularity with party members during the primaries.
“Asiwaju is a democrat. He wants every aspirant to go through primary. They should go and prove their popularity with party members. Remember that this is the same thing Asiwaju is pushing for at the national level. It is a pure thus that he has endorsed a particular aspirant. There is nothing like that,” our source said.
A top member of the party said the endorsement story was meant to dampen the spirit of Senator Obanikoro because of his growing popularity in the district.
“Koro is the aspirant to beat and his growing popularity is giving his rivals sleepless nights hence the need to spread the cooked up story of endorsement,” our source said.
This medium investigations revealed that Senator Obanikoro is the most popular among the aspirants.
“He is the most popular. He has been tested and trusted. He is an experienced politician and he has been in the Senate once, hence he is going as a ranking officer. He will give us good representation,” Islamiyat Alade, an APC member in Badagry said.
Our correspondent also discovered that there is a growing agitation in Badagry division that one of their own must occupy the seat.
“Since 1999, no politician from Badagry division has been giving the ticket. All the previous occupiers of the seat have been from Ikeja division. This is our time, Koro is a son of the soil. He’s one of us and he has the experience,” a popular traditional ruler in Iba Local Council Development Area told our correspondent.
