The Lagos State House of Lagos Assembly on Thursday attended to some aggrieved marketers and traders of the Ecowas International Market Complex who were protesting an alleged destruction of their goods by security agents.
Armed with a petition titled Appeal For Market Activities At Apongbon Loop (Old Berger Field), the peaceful protesters urged the House to intervene.
A spokesperson for the traders Mrs. Rukayat Balogun, appealled to the Government to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the alleged destruction of their goods and market stalls.
Also speaking, one of the protesters, who was simply recognised as Mr. Chizobaka, pleaded for compassion from the State Government considering the economic challenges being faced by the country.
He said the marketers and traders were currently counting their losses daily following the alleged unannounced total destruction of the market stalls and goods by men of the Nigeria Police Force, even when the stalls are far from the Eko Bridge.
He appealled for the continuous usage of the Apongbon Loop and promised that the traders would stay away from the space beneath the Eko Bridge.
Addressing the protesters on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. (Engr) Setonji David, assured that their petition would be looked into by the House.
Another member of the House, Hon. Desmond Olushola Elliot, who was present with his colleague, Hon. Jude Idimogu, commended the protesters for the peaceful demonstration.
He advised the protesters to make sure they do not allow bad elements hijack their demonstrations.
