Congress of Progressive Youth (CPY), an organization that monitors the progress of the Nigerian youth across the globe has expressed displeasure over the antics of some misguided elements in the society, who are ascribing violence to some renowned rights activists and anti-corruption crusaders, asserting that, the development is unfortunate and, “to say the least, a sign of malady.”
Leader of the organization, Comrade Adebayo Oyenekan, in a chat with our reporter in Lagos Tuesday, said, he could not believe his eyes when reading a statement purportedly read at a press congress by one Mr. Kunle Ajayi, who claimed to be the Chairman of a group known as the African Action Congress (AAC), describing people of high calibre like Comrades Razaq Olokoba and Debo Adeniran as part of hoodlums who attacked the #EnSARS protesters last year October!
Recall that at a press conference on Monday, Mr. Ajayi, alleged that, “the hoodlums’ attack during the #EndSARS protests were led by an aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, also known as Zulu Authority,” mentioning Olokoba, and Adeniran as part of other accomplices that took part in the attack!
While feeling that, bringing governor Babajide Sanwo-Sanwo-Olu’s aide into the sad scenario was not a surprise, Oyenekan said, it is the out dated antics of wanting to rubbish a performing administrator especially when a vital election is at the corner, enthusing that, “this time, they have failed because the good people of the state now sleep Sanwo-Olu, dream Sanwo-Olu, eat and drink Sanwo-Olu and think Sanwo-Olu.”
However, the youthful group leader expressed strong conviction that, the AAC leadership must have secured sponsorship and pay master who are not comfortable with the goodwill and overwhelming support the governor is enjoying since he ascended the gubernatorial throne in 2019, saying, “hence, the futile attempt at blackmailing the choice of the people before 2023.”
Oyenekan therefore vowed that, very soon, both the sponsors of agents of detraction and their godfathers would be exposed for the public to see, saying, “we know them, we have been monitoring them and I can assure you they are not spirits but human beings amongst us.”
Going back to the mentioned activists, the CPY boss said nothing could be spurious and idiotic than for someone to wake up from the wrong side of his bed and alleged that Olokoba and Adeniran are violent persons that belong to the group of hoodlums and miscreants, saying, their pedigrees and antecedents in the field of fight for democracy and in the terrain of activism are there as testimonies for whoever cares to cross check.
According to him, the duo, along with other notable ones are the ones that educate, sensitise, inform and lead in struggle for the emancipation of the citizenry, praising them for spending their hard earned money, their precious time and God endowed energy on radio, television and other means of disseminating information to the people with a view to achieving peace and harmony in the country.
He reminded that, (Olokoba has been in the leadership of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) as far back as when he was in the secondary school and presently. The National President of the Campaign for Dignity, a group that has over 70 other rights organizations under its umbrella.
What goes well for Olokoba, the youth leader revealed, “is his being vocal, outspoken and ability to douse tension where and when necessary,” insisting that, “he can never be violent because his always on the side of the people, the side of good governance and can talk to the powers that be.”
While concluding that, “we can also vouch for others mentioned at the press conference as attackers of the #EndSARS protesters like Comrades Gbenga Soloki and Nelson Ekujumi, Oyenekan advised the AAC boss, Ajayi, to look elsewhere for their attackers insisting that the names contained in his speech were a case of mistaken identities.
On the part of Debo Adeniran, Oyenekan wondered how anybody in his right senses would say the maverick anti-corruption brave fighter could be violent, saying, “Debo Adeniran, the leader of the famous Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), is known throughout the world as a fighter, who strongest weapon is his powerful oratory prowess to convince doubting Thomasses that corruption has the potential to wreck a nation.”
