Procurement and donation of several Security Vehicles and other fighting gadgets to the Police by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has thrilled a woman activist, Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle, who described the gesture as, “heart-warming and praise-worthy.”
Mrs Success-Adekunle, who is the National Convener of an all women Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Women for Change Initiatives (WCI), in a chat with our correspondent, was of the conviction that, the development has further confirmed the serious commitment of the governor in the safety of lives and property of the good people of his state.
The highly impressed activist therefore congratulated the people of the state on their right choice in 2019 when they gave their mandate to the right candidate to be their governor, stressing the need for all hands to be on deck to give maximum support to the governor, who has left nobody in doubt that he means business in the art of good governance.
The lawyer cum right advocate was talking on the heel of donation of 150 vehicles, 30 patrol cars, (4) four high-capacity troop carriers, and two anti-riot water cannon vehicles to the police in Lagos Thursday during President Muhammadu Buhari’s working visit to the state.
The governor donated the equipment procured through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), that partners with the private sector and individuals to provide vital support to security agencies like the Police and others.
The visiting President Muhammadu Buhari, personally took inventory and commissioned the equipment before Governor Sanwo-Olu handed them over to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, for the use of the Lagos State Police Command.
According to the NGO boss, President Buhari could not have been more apt when he said the equipment would boost the morale of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police in fighting crimes, adding that, the availability of the state of the art gadgets is enough to caution evil minded characters in the society to behave.
While urging the people to support the government in its efforts to fight crime in the country, Success-Adekunle reminded that, the war against crime is not to be seen as the exclusive duty of the government, but a collective responsibility of all and sundary.
She also advised the police and other security agencies to join hands in making proper use of the equipment handed over to them in a way that would convince the criminals that it is not a business as usual, praying that, the setback the state and the Police suffered during the needless bloody #EndSARS protest never repeat itself.
She therefore praised the governor and his competent team for good job they have been doing these last two years, assuring them that, “your performances are noted and appreciated by the appreciative people of Lagos State.”
