Two supporters of the leading chairmanship aspirant in Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi were macheted and hundreds disenfranchised during the All Progressives Congress primary election exercise held on Saturday, 29 May, 2021 across the state.
Four of her agents in four wards namely Gowon, Federal, Abesan 1 and 2 were forced to sign election papers at gun point while one was whisked away to an unknown destination for refusing to sign the papers.
His phone was snatched from him and his whereabout is still unknown as at the time of filing this report.
Victims of the machete attacks are Hon. Oladosu Sheriff Olasunkanmi and Shonibare. The duo are receiving treatments at a clinic within the LCDA.
Election in all the five (5) Wards in LCDA were disrupted by thugs and cultists hired by the incumbent council boss, Princess Olabisi Adebajo; her husband; Alhaji Yisa Yusuff, a party chieftain; and Moshood Olateju Bello (Mobell).
Voters especially, Adunni’s supporters were not allowed to exercise their rights to vote as the hired miscreants unleashed mayhem on them.
They were chased away with canes and sporadic gunshots in all the designated venues of the election.
Abisco’s husband, an alleged cult leader was said to have brought in cultists from Ijebu Ode in Ogun state while Alhaji Yisa Yusuff hired his thugs from Mushin.
It was reliably that Adunni’s intimidating political profile, acceptance at the grassroots and outstanding performance when she was a two-term Vice Chairman and Executive Secretary of the LCDA and her advantage over the incumbent chairman, Abisco forced the party leadership to resort to use of thugs and cultists during the party primaries.
The incumbent council boss, Abisco was accused of being arrogant, snobbish, uncourteous, lack respect to party members, council staffs, CDC/CDA, Arewa community among others.
All these among other negative behavior has weakened her popularity and acceptance in the LCDA hence her resolve to make the primary election a do or die affair.
It was further gathered that she cannot point to any laudable achievement or project executed by her administration since inception four years ago.
The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government scored her low and accused her of financial misappropriation during their assessment of local government councils across the state.
She has been in and out of EFCC’s office from offenses ranging from financial recklessness, embezzlement among other financial crimes.
Meanwhile, Adunni has urged her supporters not to take laws into their hands and remain calm, adding that the leadership of the party will look into the matter.
