The spirit of gratitude, unity and service came alive at Isonyin Grammar School (IGS) as the 1972/1976 Progressives Set commissioned a solar streetlight project as part of its commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped its members.
The initiative is designed to improve visibility, enhance security and create a safer school environment. Beyond its practical benefits, the project symbolises gratitude and the commitment of former students to investing in the future of their alma mater.
The commissioning was graced by His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul Rasheed Omotayo Cossy Salami (Ilufemiloye I), Kabiyesi of Isonyin, whose presence added royal prestige to the historic occasion.
As the solar lights illuminated the school premises, the 72/76 Progressives demonstrated that success is not measured only by personal achievements but also by meaningful contributions to the institutions and communities that shaped one’s journey.
Old students, school representatives, guests and well-wishers gathered in an atmosphere of excitement and nostalgia, reaffirming the values of unity, friendship and service that continue to define the association.
The project is expected to improve visibility after sunset and contribute to security while serving as a lasting reminder to present and future generations that their predecessors remain committed to their welfare and development.
The initiative also sends a message to other alumni associations that meaningful contributions, regardless of size, can create lasting impact when driven by love for one’s roots and commitment to service.
The celebration reached an emotional high as members of the set sang the school anthem, reflecting on their years at IGS and celebrating the project as an expression of humanitarian service and gratitude.
