Lagos State APC gubernatorial aspirant, Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, has described the appointment of Olatunji Disu as acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) as a pivotal moment for policing in Nigeria.
Ajose, an entrepreneur and development advocate from Badagry Division, praised Disu’s distinguished career, highlighting his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he built strong relationships with citizens and demonstrated a commitment to disciplined, community-focused policing.
“During the EndSARS protests, his measured and professional approach earned him widespread respect from both the public and the media,” Ajose noted.
He further underscored Disu’s leadership across high-stakes roles, including as Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the FCT, and most recently as AIG of the FCID Annex, Alagbon. Each role, Ajose said, reflects “a career built on operational excellence, strategic foresight, and unwavering commitment to institutional discipline.”
Amid Nigeria’s evolving security challenges, Ajose said Disu’s appointment represents a shift toward intelligence-led policing, improved inter-agency coordination, and the adoption of modern technology in crime prevention.
“The Nigerian Police Force has long struggled with public skepticism. With Disu at the helm, there is a real opportunity to rebuild trust and redefine the force’s relationship with citizens,” he added.
Ajose also highlighted the importance of officer welfare, adherence to the rule of law, and citizen-focused policing as critical factors in fostering a professional and accountable force.
“Disu’s rise is not merely a personal milestone; it is a clear signal that Nigeria is ready for leadership rooted in discipline, strategy, and respect for its people,” the alumnus of the University of Ilorin, Harvard Business School, and the International Business School of Scandinavia added.
Mr. Ajose also thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him, which warranted his appointment at a time when the nation is facing security challenges.
He called for broad support for Mr. Disu to succeed in the onerous task of ensuring the nation’s safety and the protection of lives and property.
