The All Progressives Congress has concluded preparations for its Local Government Congress across the 20 constitutionally recognised local government areas of Lagos State, with party leaders expressing confidence in a smooth and credible process.
The exercise, slated for Saturday, will usher in new 27-member executive committees to manage party affairs at the council level.
Addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat on ACME Road, Chairman of the Ward and Local Government Screening Committee, Mr. Mumgji Salama, described the assignment as a privilege, noting that Lagos remains a leading state in party organisation and governance.
He appealed to members to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the process, assuring that those who may not scale through at this stage would have future opportunities within the party structure.
Salama expressed optimism that the congress would proceed without internal disputes, adding that consensus arrangements had been reached in several local governments to ensure stability and unity.
In his remarks, Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, said the congress represents a critical step in strengthening internal democracy and consolidating the party’s grassroots machinery.
He commended members of the screening and technical committees for their dedication and sacrifices in ensuring thorough preparations.
Ojelabi noted that the congress marks the final phase of the party’s internal reorganisation process at the local government level.
He further stated that the APC remains committed to transparency, highlighting its decision to invite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and accredit media observers in compliance with the amended Electoral Act.
The state chairman congratulated all cleared aspirants and emphasised that effective leadership within the party must be inclusive, with deliberate engagement of youths and women in decision-making and organisational responsibilities.
