In a strong demonstration of continuity and renewed purpose, Senior Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, Executive Chairman of the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has begun his second term with decisive action and visible results.

The overwhelming mandate he earned at the polls reflects residents’ confidence in his leadership—trust built on a track record of inclusive governance, infrastructure renewal and enhanced service delivery throughout his first term.

Building on this foundation, and with a fresh mandate aligned to the Greater Lagos Vision, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu”s THEMES+ Agenda and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Akinsanya administration is steering local initiatives toward broader developmental goals. The central philosophy remains clear: ensure sustainable growth, strengthen accountability, and ultimately leave no community behind.

Akinsanya’s second term has quickly prioritized infrastructure upgrades across the LCDA. To begin with, a series of road and drainage projects are already underway, including the 1.3-kilometre Lafunke Street reconstruction in Ijegun with dual-side drainage, and the rehabilitation of Olanrewaju/Rabiat Akinsanya Street in Egan to ease mobility and connectivity.

In addition, further rehabilitation works are ongoing on Muri Olosunde/Fatimo Street, Ikotun; Irepodun/Anioluwapo Street, Igando; Adeotan Street, Ikotun; Chris Bee Street, Igando; Independence Way, Igando; Itoki Street, Ikotun; Prince Adeyemi Street, Ikotun; and Old Egan Road, Akesan.

Simultaneously, the LCDA Secretariat in Ikotun is receiving a major facelift, while all Primary Health Centres (PHCs)—in Igando, Ikotun, Egan, Abaranje, Ijegun, Iseri-Oshun, Obadore and Isuti—are undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation to strengthen healthcare delivery.

Furthermore, a significant intervention was the installation of a 500KVA transformer for the Santa Maria community in Egan, restoring electricity after a prolonged blackout and delivering major relief to residents.

The administration has continued to promote participatory governance by deepening engagement with Community Development Associations (CDAs), Community Development Committees (CDCs) and traditional institutions.

To reinforce this commitment, the inauguration of the Boundary Adjustment Committee on October 30 underscores the council”s proactive approach to peaceful coexistence and conflict management.

Beyond infrastructure, the Akinsanya administration has also advanced its healthcare agenda. The LCDA flagged off the 2025 Novel Oral Polio Immunization campaign and facilitated a free mammogram exercise on October 9 as part of its cancer-awareness programme. A strategic partnership with Lions Club International further provided free eye screenings and corrective glasses to residents.

Environmental safety has remained his priority. A strengthened sanitation monitoring exercise commenced on October 10, while routine fumigation of PHCs and council offices continues to maintain a cleaner and safer environment.

Akinsanya’s administration has likewise sustained investments in education and youth development. A spelling-bee competition was organized to enhance literacy among schoolchildren, while free GCE forms were distributed to support out-of-school youth seeking academic advancement.

It was in the same vein, interactive sessions held with head teachers demonstrated a continued commitment to improving educational standards. Vocational training and empowerment programmes also remain central to the administration”s youth-focused agenda.

Culturally, the LCDA celebrated the Yoruba Cultural Day, reinforcing communal identity and pride. To strengthen civic participation, the council launched an intensive drive promoting continuous voter registration to combat voter apathy.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Budget Stakeholders Meeting has been scheduled to deepen transparency and encourage wider citizen engagement in governance. The administration also mounted a Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) awareness campaign, thereby reinforcing its stance on protecting women and children and advancing social inclusion.

In under 100 days, Executive Chairman Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya has once again reaffirmed his commitment to responsive, inclusive and development-oriented governance. His leadership—rooted in continuity, innovation and active community engagement—continues to deliver tangible dividends, positioning the Igando-Ikotun LCDA firmly on course toward achieving the Greater Lagos Vision and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots.
