Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has criticized the proposed formation of a mega opposition party ahead of the 2027 general election, dismissing it as a move driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.
Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, March 21, 2025, George took aim at Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other politicians advocating for the coalition.
He argued that the push for a new party is not a genuine effort to address Nigeria’s political challenges but rather a strategic move by individuals who are eager to fulfill their presidential aspirations.
George also expressed concerns about the future of the PDP, warning that the party should not collapse its structure due to internal disputes.
He cautioned that those pursuing the coalition are making a “monumental mistake” and are “dancing on the graves of our founding fathers.”
His comments come as El-Rufai, a former Kaduna State governor, works to reposition the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a formidable challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), seeking to rally opposition heavyweights to his side.
