The Ogun State Government has strongly condemned the actions of Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, over his alleged attack on officials of the State Planning and Development Permit Authority.
According to PUNCH Online, the officials were assaulted at his bar located around Iyana Ilogbo in the Sango Ota area of the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who has repeatedly assaulted government officials without provocation.
Akinmade denounced the attack led by Portable and his associates, calling it “unacceptable and barbaric.” He warned that such unruly behavior would not be tolerated and would be addressed in line with the laws of the land.
He further expressed concern over the singer’s disruptive behavior, stating that it has become disgraceful and unbearable for both the government and residents of the area, given the chaos he frequently causes.
Akinmade reaffirmed the Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to upholding law and order, emphasizing the government’s dedication to maintaining the values of Omoluabi (virtue and integrity) across the state.
“We are deeply shocked by the uncivil and inappropriate actions of the singer Portable on Wednesday at Iyana Ilogbo, where his bar is located. The manner in which he and his associates attacked OGPDPA officials was not only disgraceful but also a clear sign of moral decay in those involved,” Akinmade stated.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, he added, has strongly condemned the incident, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to justice and equality. He warned that anyone who violates the law, regardless of their social status or influence, will face legal consequences.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command on Thursday arraigned nine of Portable’s associates before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, for allegedly assaulting officers of the Ota Zonal Planning Office under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The suspects—Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26)—were charged with five counts, including felony, assault, unlawful restriction, possession of dangerous weapons (cutlasses and guns), and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
