Controversial Nigerian artiste, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail in the sum of ₦1 million by the Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, following his arraignment on multiple charges including criminal defamation, cyberstalking, incitement, and intimidation.
The court ruled that Portable must provide two sureties in like sum—one being either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other a property owner in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) with a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).
The case stems from a petition filed by Fuji singer Okunola Saheed Osupa, popularly known as Saheed Osupa, who alleged that Portable defamed him during a live Instagram broadcast on March 19, 2025. In the video, Portable claimed Osupa was envious of his rising fame and deliberately sabotaged his music revenue.
Quoting Portable’s outburst, the petition noted:
“This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money.”
Police investigations confirmed the viral video, and upon questioning at the State Intelligence Department (SID) in Ilorin, Portable reportedly admitted to the statements.
He is being prosecuted under Sections 392, 114, and 397 of the Penal Code; Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015; and Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
The Investigating Police Officer, ASP Adeniyi James, confirmed that Portable’s arraignment followed directives from police authorities.
Portable, a native of Oke-Osa, Sango-Ota, Ogun State, is expected to meet the bail conditions before release. The case has been adjourned, with the judge cautioning all parties to maintain decorum as proceedings continue.
