A senatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Patrick Ubajaka, has officially declared his intention to run for the Anambra South Senatorial District seat, which became vacant following the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July. The late senator was laid to rest in November.
Speaking to journalists in Awka on Thursday, Ubajaka described his aspiration as both a divine calling and a well-informed decision to serve the people of Anambra South. A long-standing member of APGA, Ubajaka emphasized his deep-rooted connection to the late Senator Ubah, whom he described as a kinsman from the Otolo community in Nnewi North Local Government Area. He argued that, by providence and proximity, he is the most suitable candidate to complete Ubah’s tenure.
Ubajaka outlined a seven-point legislative agenda aimed at addressing the needs of the district, which spans seven local government areas: Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Orumba South. Highlighting the district’s unique characteristics, he said, “Anambra South boasts a concentration of renowned entrepreneurs, astute politicians, traditional leaders, and scholars. Representing such a zone is not an ‘all-comers job.’ It requires a relational personality and a team player, qualities I have demonstrated over decades as a private entrepreneur and public servant.”
Ubajaka also noted his experience in the private sector, citing his involvement in executing European Union projects across Nigeria. He promised to leverage this background to sponsor impactful bills and deliver quality representation in the Senate.
“Completing the good work started by the late Senator Ubah is my primary objective,” Ubajaka said. “If elected, I will ensure his legacies are sustained while introducing transformative programmes and policies that will improve the lives of the people of Anambra South.”
The aspirant appealed to APGA leadership to grant him the party’s ticket, assuring them that his vision aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s developmental agenda for Anambra State.
“I have been with APGA since its inception and share the ideology that makes it a foremost progressive party in Nigeria,” Ubajaka said. “I want to take this ideology to the Red Chambers, resonating with my values of consistency in character and commitment to service.”
Ubajaka concluded by pledging to support Governor Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a peaceful, secure, and prosperous state, emphasizing that his legislative efforts would be geared toward achieving this goal.
