The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, has expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the case of electoral malpractice involving Chief Michael Ogunlade.
The trial, which commenced this week at the Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, has been adjourned to December 16, 2024, for continuation.
Both INEC counsel, Ifedapo Osadola, and Chief Ogunlade’s lawyer, A.J. Oguntuase, were present at the hearing.
Speaking on the development, Dr. Omoseyindemi reiterated the importance of concluding the case promptly.
He warned that any officials found violating the Electoral Act would face severe consequences.
Chief Michael Ogunlade was arrested for allegedly carting away election result sheets at polling unit 007 in Iye III, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, during the 2023 general elections.
He has since been charged with the theft of result sheets.
