Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) last night apprehended three suspected thieves for allegedly stealing two phones from accident victims on Governor’s Road, Alausa, Ikeja.
The suspects, identified as Isaiah Adegbenro (38), Edet Johnson (30), and Efe Sowemimo (28), were caught just a few meters away from the accident site while attempting to flee with the stolen phones.
The victims had been traveling towards Ikeja in a red 2010 Toyota Camry when the driver lost control and crashed into a road divider near the Adeyemi Bero end of Governor’s Road, Alausa, Ikeja.
Instead of assisting the injured driver and occupants, the suspects reportedly took advantage of the situation by rifling through the victims’ pockets and the damaged vehicle.
They made off with two high-value smartphones: an iPhone 15 valued at N1,300,000 and an iPhone 12 worth N620,000.
Alerted by the incident, RRS officers on patrol swiftly pursued the fleeing suspects and recovered the stolen phones from their pockets.
The operatives also assisted in getting the victims to the hospital and clearing the vehicle to prevent further obstruction.
The suspects have reportedly made confessions and will be charged in court today, following orders from CSP Shola Jejeloye, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad.
