Sijibomi Ogundele, a well-known Lagos socialite and CEO of Sujimoto Homes, finds himself at the center of a $325,000 fraud scandal.
Ogundele was recently detained at the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) in Abuja, though he has since been released on bail.
The allegations, brought forward by human rights lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi, accuse Ogundele of defrauding Kabiru Ibrahim out of $325,000.
According to Olajengbesi, the incident dates back to November 2020, when Ogundele allegedly persuaded Ibrahim to make a down payment for a three-bedroom flat in Sujimoto’s upscale Leonardo estate, valued at $750,000.
In the petition, Olajengbesi detailed how Ogundele presented enticing offers and promotional materials, claiming that a 50% upfront payment would reduce the property’s price to $650,000. Convinced by the offer, Ibrahim reportedly transferred $325,000, which was acknowledged by Sujimoto Construction Limited.
Despite the initial transaction, Ibrahim claims he received no updates on construction or the property, raising suspicions about his investment.
Police spokesperson DSP Funmi Eguaoje confirmed Ogundele’s release, stating he had attended an “interview” with the authorities.
“They called them in for an interview today, and now he’s going home,” Eguaoje explained.
The case continues to draw public attention as further investigations unfold.
