The Otun Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abimbola Ajibola, has asserted that the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, remains indisposed and unfit for rulership presently.
The vacancy in the Olubadan stool arose following the passing of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who reigned for two years until his demise at the age of 81.
Oba Ajibola, speaking to journalists at his Sanyo private residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, questioned the rush to install Oba Olakulehin, emphasizing the lack of physical interaction or communication with him.
He expressed his role as the second in command and lieutenant, highlighting the absence of any notification from Oba Olakulehin regarding his return or intended meetings with the people of Ibadan.
Oba Ajibola criticized the endorsement of Oba Olakulehin allegedly made during a meeting at Chief Bode Amoo’s private residence in Agodi Government Reserved Area, Ibadan, on Monday, distancing himself from any such illegitimate actions.
While acknowledging Oba Olakulehin as the rightful successor to the Olubadan throne, Oba Ajibola stressed the importance of allowing him sufficient time to recover, citing the inability of visitors to meet with him since the previous Friday.
He urged for patience and compassion, denouncing any coercion or undue pressure on Oba Olakulehin’s health.
