The ranking of Lagos as the 19th best country to live in, by Timeout and Forbes magazines, has continued to generate discussion, with the recent one being the commendation by a pan Lagos group, the Lagos People’s Assembly (LPA), commending Governor Babajide Sanwoolu and other past Governors for leaving a befitting legacy in the state of excellence.
LPA, in its reaction, commended the organizers of the ranking for their commitment and sincerity in dispassionately assessing the cities to arrive at an appropriate result.
In a press release by Gbenga Soloki, the LPA praised Governor Sanwoolu for his brilliance and tenacity of purpose since assuming office, which has allowed him to continue the footprint of his predecessors and has added solid programs to the state.
LPA further appreciated the commitment of past Governors of the state, such as the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, and Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, for contributing positively to the development of Lagos state, stressing that posterity will not forget them.
The group, however, enjoined the governor to continue to pursue a special status for Lagos using the federal lawmakers in the state to push the agenda, promising that LPA will be willing to join forces to ensure that the desired recognition is accorded.
The group further called on the national assembly to complete, as a matter of urgency, the recognition of the thirty-seven local council development areas created in the state since 2003, as all other requirements had been completed, only for the national assembly to enlist them as substantive local government areas.
The group assured it will continue to partner with the state government to bring development and progress to the state.
