The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Tajudeen Abass, has commended the giant strides recorded by his predecessor, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, in Surulere Local Government, which he said have changed the political landscape in the area.
He urged other elected officials to emulate the positive and progressive contributions of Gbajabiamila in the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.
The Speaker stated this during the commissioning of a Mini-Stadium constructed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, in Coker-Aguda LCDA area of Surulere in Lagos State.
He described as unprecedented the construction of over 200 roads in Surulere and environs by the former speaker, which had boosted the socio-economic lives of residents.
Hon Abass noted that Sporting activity is a major act of uniting Nigerians even in the face of ethnic and religious bias, adding that promotion of unity in diversity has been attained through sports.
According to him, the English Premier League now generates up to £7.6 billion pounds per annum while it also created over 100,000 full-time jobs, believing that Nigeria can enjoy the same if the sector is well maximized.
He explained that several projects commissioned in the last few days demonstrated the commitments of the Chief of Staff to what selfless service is all about.
The Speaker expressed optimism that the process of finding a replacement for the Chief of Staff in the House of Representatives will be seamless.
On his part, the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, thanked the people of Surulere for their years of loyalty and support, assuring of more people-oriented projects in the area.
He said he became a shining today because of their prayers and passion for all he believed in.
Hon Gbajabiamila noted that the current Speaker, Rt Hon Tajudeen Abass, is also representing the people of the Constituency just as Hon Lanre Okunlola and his humble self.
He was optimistic that many stars and talents will be discovered through the Mini Stadium in which he said about 20 of such had been done all around Surulere.
On his part, the Chairman of Coker Aguda LCDA, Rasaq Olalekan, thanked the Chief of Staff for several projects executed in the council area despite not being within his Federal Constituency.
He assured of maximum protection and use of the project in fostering peace and unity among residents of the area.
