Atiku Abubakar’s recent outburst following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of his lawsuit challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s electoral victory is not only insensitive but also reveals his true character. It is important to address his points and counter them with facts.

Firstly, Atiku is undoubtedly the biggest loser of the apex court judgment that affirmed President Tinubu’s victory. It is clear that the majority of Nigerians have chosen President Tinubu as their leader, and Atiku’s attempt to undermine this democratic decision is nothing short of a desperate move to gain power through the back door.

Ekiti 2026: The Symbolic Submission of Governor Oyebanji vs. the Envy-Laden Submission by the Atiku of Ekiti

During the days when the Supreme Court appeared to be favoring Atiku, he was quick to claim that it represented the hope of the common man. However, now that the court’s judgment does not align with his personal and self interests, he is castigating it. This shows a lack of integrity and a disregard for the principles of justice and fairness.

It is important to note that Atiku did not win the election and, therefore, has no legitimate claim to the presidency. His attempt to discredit President Tinubu’s victory and portray himself as the rightful leader is not only false but also a disservice to the Nigerian people. Nigeria dodged a bullet by not having Atiku as its president, as he would have been a misnomer for the most populous black nation on earth.

Atiku should accept the reality of his political retirement, which was made possible through Jagaban himself, President Tinubu. He should not entertain any thoughts of coming anywhere near the presidency of Nigeria. Instead, if he wants to remain politically relevant, he should embrace the olive branch extended to him by Mr. President and work towards the betterment of the country.

As a former vice president, Atiku should prioritize the interest of the country over his own selfish ambitions. Rather than heating up the polity with his outbursts, he should come up with solutions to the problems facing the country. He should emulate ex-president Goodluck Jonathan who his busy installing good governance across the globe after leaving office rather than fanning the ember of discord. This is the mark of a true statesman, one who puts the welfare of the people above personal gain.

Atiku should support good governance. Instead of undermining the democratically elected president, he should contribute positively to the development of the nation. This can be done by offering constructive criticism, engaging in meaningful dialogue, and working towards the common goal of a better Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar’s insensitive outburst following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of his lawsuit is unwarranted and lacks credibility. It is important to set the record straight and counter his points with facts. Nigeria deserves leaders who prioritize the interest of the people and work towards the betterment of the nation, rather than those who seek power through questionable means.
