The Lagos state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists have staged a peaceful protest over the mismanagement of funds contributed towards the NAWOJ/NUJ Housing Scheme.
Members during the peaceful protest at the end of the July Congress of the NUJ Lagos Council, called on the leadership of the union to stop playing politics with the issue.
One of those accused of mismanaging the funds, NAWOJ’s National President, IFEYINWA OMOWOLE claimed that the $227,000.00 she withdrew was changed to naira and paid into the account of Primewaters’ a company formerly in charge of the project.
The then Chairman of Primewaters, Prince TUNJI OGUNWUSI who is a brother to the current Ooni of Ife had earlier told the union that he received over N90million naira on the project part of which was used in grading of road to the site and building of 3 “prototype” houses.
The protesters called on the Ooni of Ife, Oba ADEYEYE OGUNWUSI to prevail on his brother to fear God, respect his family name and do the needful by returning money paid to him.
Some of the protesters said they sold their shares and properties to key into the project saying setting up of another Committee by the National Executive Council of NUJ is a time-wasting tactics when many of the colleagues who subscribed to the project are dead.
