A pro-Olakunle Oluomo’s campaign group for the re-election of the incumbent Ogun State House of Assembly, Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo has commenced house-to-house mobilization of votes for his re-election to the state’s legislative house on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
The group that goes by the name; Ogun Youth Volunteers for Oluomo’s Re-Election, thought the exercise is imperative to sensitize the people of the Polling Unit 004 of Ifo 1 on the importance of Oluomo’s return to the House to continue the good work he started in his first term that engendered Executive/Legislative harmony that guaranteed progress and development of the state.
Convener of the group, Comrade Folakanmi Abeeb Abiola (a.k.a Oluwa), who spoke with the media enthused that, “what makes the matter simple for the Speaker is that, interestingly, all the five wards that make up the Ifo State Constituency 1, are Oluomo’s strong hold, hence, our confidence on victory next Saturday that, the exercise would simply be to satisfy just all electoral righteousness because it will be a walk-over in favour of our Principal, Olakunle Oluomo.”
Recall that, the election of the polling unit in question was cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on March 18, due to an alleged over voting. The cancellation came even as the speaker was already leading with 968 votes, the gap the group viewed as difficult to bridge in the coming Saturday election.
The Unit is popularly referred to as ‘front of Mosque 11.’
According to INEC record, there are 1,848 registered voters out of which 1,596 collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs). And the contest is squarely between the Speaker, Oluomo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ifo Ward 3 and Ogundele Okikiola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from Ifo Ward 1.
Abiola premised his group’s confidence of victory on the all-round popularity and acceptability of Oluomo among the young and the old people at home and abroad coupled with his experience and superb expertise with which he has been handling the affairs of the House that brought about cohesion and sense of belonging among the generality of the Honourable Members of the House.
“It is this harmonious relationship among the house members that gives the Executive Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun opportunity to be focussed in his job and thereby allows concentration on the welfare of his people, development of the state and plurality of infrastructural growth in Ogun State to the admiration of the citizenry,” Abeeb asserted, admitting that, “without Oluomo’s legislative expertise and his humble disposition, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ability to fix his eyes on the ball would have been in jeopardy.”
Saturday re-run election, the Convener went further, “is an opportunity for the people to reciprocate Oluomo’s good gesture in form of superb performance by voting for him en masse to show appreciation that they are aware of his commitment to the welfare of humanity and the love he has for his good people of Ogun State.”
