Polish striker Robert Lewandowski’s impressive double helped Barcelona to another comfortable victory over Elche, taking them a step closer to the LaLiga title.
In their match against Elche on Saturday, the Blaugrana secured a 4-0 win, with goals from Lewandowski and Ansu Fati, as well as a contribution from Ferran Torres.
Xavi’s team is now 15 points ahead of Real Madrid in the league table, further underlining their dominance this season. For Sebastian Beccacece, Elche’s fourth manager of the season, the match was a stark reminder of the task at hand.
From the start, Barcelona pushed hard for an opener and were rewarded after 20 minutes when Lewandowski scored from Ronald Araujo’s header following Jordi Alba’s free-kick.
However, Lewandowski missed an opportunity to double the visitors’ lead before the break with a flying header, as did Jules Kounde when Edgar Badia saved his shot.
Despite missed chances in the first half, Barcelona was more ruthless in the second half. Fati capped off a smooth breakaway move with a low finish to put Barcelona two goals ahead in the 56th minute.
Lewandowski added a third goal 10 minutes later, latching onto a Gavi through-ball and dispatching a neat finish. Torres then scored a fourth goal after bringing down the forward’s looping pass outside the box for a fine strike.
Overall, Barcelona dominated the match, displaying a dominant performance that edges them closer to silverware. With just a few matches left in the season, it looks like Barcelona is in a strong position to win the LaLiga title.
