A political campaign support group in Kwara State, Kwara Central Volunteers for Saliu Mustapha has expressed high excitement over the overwhelming visibility of its principal, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kwara Central in the February 25, 2023 upper legislative house election.
The excitement was contained in a statement made available to the media in both Ilorin, the state capital and in Lagos in which the group enthused that, with the latest campaign strategy taken to all the wards in the Central zone of Kwara State, victory for Saliu Mustapha is a foregone conclusion.
The statement, which was jointly signed by the principal convener, Comrade Razaq Olokoba and the co-convener, Mallam Mohammed Yusuf, the group said the tour of the whole wards of the district carried out by Mustapha was unprecedented in the annals of electioneering in the district, confirming that, Saliu Mustapha has thus become a trail blazer in the political history of the electioneering in the Kwara Central Senatorial District.
Aaccording to the statement, what made the Mustapha’s visibility more interesting was that, “any angle he touched, he was besieged by residents from all walks of life who wanted to catch the glimpse of him and identify with his senatorial aspiration because of his humble disposition and philanthropic gestures as a private man even before aspiration to occupy a public office.”
Indication that Mustapha is the choice of the people could be read on the faces of the people who hailed him endlessly as, “the incoming Senator that we know and admire, Mutum na’mu ne, (He is our man in Hausa), and you can be sure of our votes,” adding that, “Mustapha with the prestigious title of Turaki Ilorin is more likely to be the choice of the emirate because of the esteemed position the title occupies in the emirate.”
Olokoba and Yusuf, in the statement marvel at the way Turaki Mustapha brings himself to the level of the artisans, market men/women, students, commercial drivers, motorcycle rides as well as students, citing an example of a case where Saliu Mustapha patronized a newly opened salon by a youth where he had a nice haircut indicating what the youth would enjoy under his senatorial duties when voted into office, asserting that, “there is no doubting the fact that who is who among the crucial stake holders in the central district in particular and the whole of Ilorin in general as well as in Nigeria as a whole are comfortable with the candidacy and senatorial aspiration of Mallam Saliu Mustapha.
Concluding, the statement restated the group’s avowed commitment to his aspiration which its members have promised to support through massive door to door campaign to mobilise support for him assuring, “we would not relent until he gets an overwhelming mandate on February 25 from the good people of the Kwara Central Senatorial axis that has the largest number of voters in the state.”
