The People of Agboyi Town in Agboyi Ketu Local Council Development Area can now heave a sigh of relief after waiting for at least thirty years to have access to portable water.
The area populated with about twenty thousand people have been suffering from lack of portable water for decades until the current Chairman of Agboyi Ketu LCDA, led by Mayor DELE OSHINOWO came to their rescue.
In an interview at the council headquarters in Agboyi Ketu, Mayor OSHINOWO said 130 meter long borehole was sunk to put an end to the sufferings of Agboyi Community who have expressed their joy for the initiative.
They said the intervention from DELE OSHINOWO led administration had put an end to the worrying search for water by residents of the community who are also vulnerable to water borne diseases.
The council boss however said funding remains the major challenge despite the enormous supports from residents who voluntarily
pay their taxes regularly in returns for good governance by the current administration.
Mayor OSHINOWO who was given a scorecards of first year of second term in office also said that plans are underway to inaugurate 238 housing units out of 1,500 planned for the less privileged within the council area.
According to him, the council provided lands for the project which is being funded under Private Public Partnerships arrangement noting that no money is borrowed to finance the project.
He further said and I quote” The housing project is being strictly monitored by our Property and Investment Board to ensure due diligence, delivered according to laid down plans with no money borrowed from the banks to finance the project”. End of quote.
On what will be his request if he had opportunity to ask Governor SANWOOLU for favour, the council boss noted that fixing of bad roads within the area will top his priority list. He however added that major crucial link Roads have been repaired by his administration.
On urban renewal, Mayor OSHINOWO disclosed that some of the slums within the council area are undergoing regeneration for provision of basic amenities in order to improve their living standard.
