An advocacy organization, Nigeria Peace Advocacy Group (NPAG), has tasked Ministers and other government functionaries in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to emulate the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), in the way he always shed lights on the activities of the administration that endears the administration to the populace.
Convener of the group, Comrade Omolola Olukayode made the call in Badagry Tuesday, while commenting on the interview of the Works and Housing minister aired by the BBC Yoruba, where he explained reasons the government is borrowing money.
In the interview, Fashola, convincingly explained the need for taking loans and borrowing money particularly for the sake of infrastructure development, exposing that, the available infrastructure in the country presently is not sufficient to serve the citizenry let alone be adequate for the future generation’s use!
It is against this background that, Olukayode expressed the need for government functionaries to emulate Fashola in explaining some government policies that appear bogus to the people so that the people can be on the same page with the authority, believing that, by so doing, there would be no room for mutual suspicion and distrust.
If the people are aware of the reasons for steps being taken by the authority, Olukayode believes, their confidence in the government would become more solid, adding that, they would therefore be prepared to assist, support and cooperate with the government when knowing full well that the actions of the government is for their good.
According to him, it is interesting to learn from Fashola that, even the United States of America (USA), is also indebted to the tune of $23 trillion, wondering why Nigeria should not borrow if for the sake of infrastructure upgrade for the sake of the present generation and generation yet unborn.
Going by the above mentioned reason, Olukayode agreed that, President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts at developing infrastructure across the country should be supported because of the role of developed infrastructure as a formidable vehicle for job creation, insisting that, President Muhammadu Buhari deserves maximum support for doing well and to encourage him to do more.
Speaking further, the youth leader thanked God for blessing the president with equally a workaholic Mionister in person of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (BRF), stating that, with him, the job would be done and done properly and by that, a lot of jobs would be created.
“If the borrowed money is judiciously utilized on the infrastructure as stated, there would be a multiplier effects on all sectors of the economy across the country. The spate of criminal tendencies would reduce and security would be more guaranteed because if greater percentage of hands is gainfully engaged, that would be a recipe for rendering the devil useless. So, the more hands are gainfully engaged, the more the rate of crime reduces,” Olukayode submitted emphatically.
