A pan-Yoruba pro-democracy NGO, Egbe Omo Yoruba, has urged Lagos residents not to panic over the coronavirus matter saying the state governor, Babajide Olusasola Sanwo-Olu is doing a great job to curtail it.

The  Convener, Comrade Adekunle Adeosun in a release in Lagos Weekend also advised the residents to ignore the antics of some self-styled alarmists, whose stuck in trade is to cause confusion with the hope of undermining the good work of Governor Sanwo-Olu towards uprooting the deadly virus from the state completely.

The statement reminded the people that the only legitimate institutions assigned to carry out the testing and treatment of the victims of coronavirus are Ministry of Health and the National Commission for Disease Control (NCDC), describing any other outfits claiming such authority as fake and impostors.

The organisation therefore warned the good people of Lagos to be wary of bad legs in the society, who might have been going round with hate speech with a view to inciting them against the government that has been performing wonders in the state.

The statement further called the attention of the people to the pass mark awarded Sanwo-Olu by the United Nation (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO), over his performance in the way he has been handling the COVID-19 matter, saying the commendations from the two global bodies are testimonies of Sanwo-Olu’s satisfactory performance.

Against this backdrop, the Forum gave kudos to the governor for a job being well done just as it enjoined the people to double their support for him to encourage him to do more, imagining what could have happened to the country in general if Sanwo-Olu has not effectively waylaid the virus at the entry point.

“If you cannot commend an achiever for good work being done, you should not embark on campaign of calumny that can drag the hands of the clock backward. COVID-19 is real and not a ruse. It is highly contagious with capability for high casualty rate if not checked,” the Forum declared.

The people were therefore enjoined to assist the governor win the coronavirus unconventional war by observing all the preventive measures spelt out by the authorities like social distancing, staying at home and observing hygienic conducts always.
